Scoliosis Evaluation:
  • X-ray review
  • posture analysis
  • classification of curve pattern according to the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School
  • personalized treatment plan according to your curve pattern

Schroth based Scoliosis Treatment:
  • personalized hands-on facilitation to correct curves in three-dimensional plane
  • scoliosis specific exercises based on individual curve pattern
  • training to stabilize the corrected posture and integrate the spinal corrections in daily life

The recommended treatment protocol is either 1 hour sessions 1x/week or  a 6-12 hour intensive in order to facilitate optimal neuromuscular re-education of spinal muscles. At the beginning of the treatment, several treatments are required (usually 4-6 sessions close together), so that the therapist can help facilitate this neuromuscular re-education of spinal muscles  while the patient is learning how to make postural corrections independently. Once the patient is able to perform posture corrections independently, they can continue with the practice at home and return as needed to adjust the treatment/refine technique (usually a 3 or 6 month follow-up).

As each individual is unique, the treatment plan will vary and depend on the severity of the curve and on the capacity of the individual's neuromuscular system to learn and integrate the new use of muscles in daily postures and activities. Most individuals require 6-12 visits to become independent with an effective curve correction program.

Weekend Intensives:
Fri+Sat, Sat+Sun or Fri+Sat+Sun
2 hours in the AM and 2 hours in the PM = 6-12 hours of training

Intensive Programs
An initial intensive consisting of  6-12 hours  is usually recommended by BSPTS and SOSORT for adolescents with a second follow-up intensive consisting of 2-6 hours depending on each patient's needs.

The intensives will include two hours of Spine Corrective Physical Therapy in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.  Adult intervention must proceed more slowly than adolescent intervention, due to possible rigidity of the tissue, arthritic changes, disc problems, and habitual movement patterns. The length of time needed to learn and perform the scoliosis exercises independently varies. Prior to your decision to initiate an intensive program, Jenni recommends a review of your current condition to guide an appropriate treatment plan.

Achievable Goals
The goals of treatment are:
  • Independent improvement of the scoliosis curvature in 3 dimensions with carryover in daily life
  • Improved strength and balance of muscle activation
  • Decreased trunk asymmetry
  • Decreased pressure on internal organs
  • Increased lung function
  • Decrease in the mechanical forces that promote progression of the curve
  • Pain relief (if present) with self-management of symptoms
  • When surgical treatment is the best option - to provide exercises prior to surgery and post-surgical if needed

Scoliosis Solutions accepts checks, Zelle, PayPal, credit cards and CASH as payment. CASH payments are discounted. Your receipt for payment will be issued as an itemized Superbill which you may submit to your health insurance company for reimbursement, but Scoliosis Solutions does not guarantee reimbursement.
You may want to contact your insurance company to determine coverage before starting any treatment. Scoliosis Solutions does not directly submit claims as we are a non-contracted (out-of-network) provider with all insurance companies.

Steps to Determine Out-Of-Network Therapy Benefits

1. Call the toll-free number for customer service on your insurance card. Select the option that will allow you to speak with a customer service representative, not an automated system. Let the customer service provider know that you are seeing an out-of-network (OON) or non- preferred provider.

2. Ask the customer service representative to quote your OUTPATIENT, OUT-OF-NETWORK Physical Therapy benefits.

3. Tell them this is for Schroth Therapy for Scoliosis, and there are NO other providers for this specialized treatment within a reasonable distance from your home. Because of this, your insurance MAY put this towards your IN-network coverage if you have GAP COVERAGE. Ask if this is a possibility.

4. Ask if they require you to submit research supporting Schroth Therapy for scoliosis. We are happy to provide you with the most current research supporting the effectiveness of this form of therapy.
